BENEFITS OF TREATMENT
-
One of the most basic yet essential benefits to a residential treatment program is the safety of the controlled environment. Out in the world and in the chaos of life it can be difficult to maintain your focus with all the distractions. What rehab does is eliminate (to the best of our ability) the distractions. Our residence is private and restricts any unwanted outside influences. It’s an environment where you can feel comfortable and safe while you focus on healing and recovery.
-
With heavy alcohol or drug use and dependence, one of the negative side effects is withdrawal. That’s why it is not recommended to try to quit “cold turkey” prior to treatment. Withdrawal symptoms require medical attention in some cases. The first part of any alcohol rehab program for some people will be alcohol-specific detoxification. This provides you or your loved one with the medical attention needed for withdrawal from alcohol and other drugs. The process we facilitate makes detoxification as safe and comfortable as possible for drugs like alcohol, opiates, methamphetamine and many others.

From day one at Recovery Works you will be learning something. In fact, rare is the day in treatment when you aren’t learning about your addiction, what it is, how to overcome it and skills to stay clean and sober. The good part, it’s not always in a classroom setting. It is done through a series of workshops, personal sessions and even through fun activity. When you leave treatment you will have a much greater understanding and perspective on why you drink and use, and better yet how to avoid relapse.

A drinking or drug problem is a much more difficult struggle than you think. It goes ever so much deeper than craving and use. It is a personal struggle impacting each individual in the same and different ways. To this end, Recovery Works provides clients with one on one counselling, one on one EMDR trauma treatment sessions, a peer environment that works to change the maladaptive behaviour that led to the addiction and/or results from years of isolation, suppressed feelings, forgotten values and sometimes institutionalisation.

Treatment involves approaches to improve personal wellness. Alcohol and drug use problems impact the entire person, body, mind and spirit. The Recovery Works approach to recovery provide you with a well-rounded or holistic program providing physical, emotional and spiritual programming. We involve our clients in an experiential program with 12-Step fellowship meetings and working their programs. We place a lot of emphasis on physical fitness with regular sessions at a Cross Fit gym, yoga, meditation, community service projects, planning and preparing nutritious meals and expressive therapies to promote wellness in recovery.

As a disease, the nature of alcoholism and drug addiction is one where relapse is very high. That is why that from the very first day a new client arrives at Recovery Works they begin working on their continuing care program – active participation in Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. Years of research has shown that people who leave treatment and get active in AA and NA stay sober. Those that don’t most often don’t stay sober for the long-term. In addition to AA and NA the Recovery Works has each client prepare an extensive counting care plan that they will use after discharge as a road map for their new clean and sober life.
-
Addiction is driven by isolation. That’s why Recovery Works is a therapeutic community. Our clients recover together assisting each other make the changes required to begin a new life. Life long friendships develop. Bad habits are changed through peer support into healthy habits. Boundaries are held and lessons are learned together. The therapeutic process is driven by the group and Recovery Works staff provide support and advice. The peer process extends beyond treatment, through community and into the fellowships of alcoholics anonymous and narcotics anonymous.

Addiction struggles are a family struggle. Even though we may not recognize it, our behaviors and actions affect our loved ones. Recovery Works is where we have the chance to work on these things as a family. We offer a family program, for those families and clients that wish to participate. After treatment, family support and boundaries is one of the things that keeps us going. Through the efforts of family treatment and by attending Al-Anon where our loved ones learn how to fulfill this role.
-
Continuing Care is the key to long term sobriety. It takes years and sometimes decades for addicts and alcoholics to get to a treatment centre. And while 60 or even 90 days in treatment is a great way to “kickstart” long-term recovery much more needs to be done. Research dating back to the 1960’s conclusively shows that the only effective approach to long-term recovery is through involvement in Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. What does one do when you are discharged from treatment? Go home and go to a meeting of AA or NA – that’s if you are serious about living your clean and sober new life to the fullest. Get a sponsor, go to meetings, do some service work and work the steps – that’s the best continuing care in the world. It can be necessary to get some professional help for personal and family issues.
-
When you come to us for care, we always consider you one of ours. We are beginning an active alumni program and supportive involvement throughout the year. For those who stay closer to Recovery Works, you are welcome to attend daily 12-Step meetings with current residents. Staying connected to the place and the people who helped get you sober is one of those tools in our long-term recovery arsenal.
